Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is the inflammation of a ligament bottom of your foot, known as the plantar fascia.
Some risk factors that may cause plantar fasciitis include:

  • Long Hours Standing
  • Working on Hard Surfaces
  • Tight Achilles Tendon
  • Sudden Weight Gain
  • Long-Distance Running
  • Running Downhill
  • Shoes with Poor Arch Support

When you have plantar fasciitis, the most common symptoms include pain and stiffness. The pain is worse when you take your first steps in the morning, standing for a while, climbing stairs, and after intense activity.

Treatments include, stretching, anti-inflammatory medications, taping of the foot, orthotics and sometimes steroid injections. Conservative care is normally successful, but sometimes surgery is indicated.

At the Schwein Foot & Ankle Clinic we offer minimally invasive surgery to treat plantar fasciitis.
