Hammer Toes

A hammer toe, or contracted toe, is a common deformity of the small toes. The toe becomes bent at the middle joint and can become permanently deformed. The deformity is due to a soft tissue imbalance.

Hammer toes may cause pain and irritation when wearing shoes and eventually lead to the development of callus formation.
Hammer toes will continue gradually get worse. There are both surgical and non-surgical treatments available for hammer toes. Non-surgical treatment includes changing to a more comfortable pair of shoes, padding your toes and orthotic devices. If your toes have become rigid and painful, surgical treatment could be needed to get your feet back to normal.
